About spa & wellness centers in the USA

As you can imagine, USA offers an array of high-quality spa facilities across the country, but did you know that it’s home to over 21 500 spa & wellness centers? And that’s not even an all time high as there was a slight fall from the number of spa locations in 2020.
Not only that, but here you can also find some of the Best Luxury Spas in the World, such as Aja Malibu, in California, and Canyon Ranch, in Massachusetts.

On the other hand, the States with the most spas centers are: California (over 2,6k), New York (over 2,5k) and Florida (almost 2k). Nevertheless, non of those States are famous for their spa services and facilities. US destination that is considered the spa capital of the country is Scottsdale, AZ.

Different types of spas

Apart from numerous spa destinations, the US also boasts a wide variety of spa centers:

  • Day Spa (where you book an appointment for a specific spa treatment)
  • Destination Spa (usually offer a myriad of services and activities for a well-rounded wellness experience)
  • Resort / Hotel Spa (becoming more common and work more or less just like day spas)
  • Mineral and Thermal Springs Spas (both are hot and rich in minerals, and in some cases can be lovely destinations to visit)
  • Medical Spa (also known as medi-spa or medspa; provides nonsurgical aesthetic medical services, like anti-aging treatments)

Benefits of spa treatments

Depending on the type of treatment, spas can be beneficial in different aspects.

Beauty treatments generally combine deep cleansing (likefacials and scrubs), massages and moisturisation, so they help purify and soften the skin. Massages and some other treatments help to relax and destress the muscles, and can even improve your sleep and release toxins from your body. Spa treatments will leave you feeling rejuvenated and energetic. This can also positively effect your mental heath as body and mind are connected in a lot of ways.

Other benefits include having a pleasant experience. For example, a couple’s massage can be a great way to spend some time with your partner. It is a normal massage, but you and your SO get massaged simultaneously, usually in a private room on adjacent massage tables.

Whichever treatment you choose, keep in mind that you can always point out which body parts you want the masseuse to focus on or avoid.
